Lycoris Desktop/LX 1.4 Goes Gold

Lycoris' flagship desktop product commences shipping after brief delay

MAPLE VALLEY, WA -- Monday, September 13, 2004 -- aple Valley, WA – Monday, 13 September 2004 – Lycoris, the worldwide Desktop Linux leader, today announced that it has commenced shipping Desktop/LX 1.4 to customers after a brief delay in the original release schedule. Desktop/LX 1.4 is now available in Personal, Deluxe and PowerPak editions from all Lycoris resellers and direct from the Lycoris Store at

"Lycoris' commitment to customers doesn't stop once we have announced a product," said Joseph Cheek, CEO and Founder of Lycoris. "We discovered some serious bugs in Desktop/LX 1.4 at the last minute, and decided to halt shipping until we had resolved the bugs, rather than releasing a sub-standard product."

Desktop/LX 1.4 builds on Lycoris' award-winning desktop platform, adding exciting new features and major behind-the-scenes changes. At the center of this release is a new desktop experience powered by KDE 3.2.3, the latest release of the popular desktop environment for Linux. The desktop experience is backed by Bitstream's btX2 font rendering subsystem, which brings sophisticated font rendering capabilities to Desktop/LX, and AI2 (A-I-squared), Lycoris' revolutionary new application environment for Linux, which gives Desktop/LX users the edge when using third-party Linux application software.

Desktop/LX 1.4 is also available in a special PowerPak bundle, which includes CodeWeavers CrossOver Office, a leading Windows-to-Linux software application. PowerPak users are able to run Quicken, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver, and scores of other popular Windows applications and plug-ins, natively and seamlessly within Desktop/LX 1.4 without additional software.

"We're very pleased to be able to offer Lycoris' customers quality Windows-to-Linux compatability," said Jeremy White, CodeWeavers' CEO. "We think that leading-edge products like Lycoris Desktop/LX 1.4, in combination with CodeWeavers' products, offer users a truly compelling desktop experience, where they can have their Linux cake and eat it, too."

As a special bonus for all those who pre-ordered copies of Desktop/LX 1.4 and waited patiently for the release, customers who pre-ordered Desktop/LX 1.4 will receive a complimentary copy of SeedPak 1, valued at $20, as soon as it becomes available. SeedPak 1 will contain a range of cutting-edge technologies for Desktop/LX, including kernel 2.6, and is due to ship in the fourth quarter of 2004.
